ICYMI – Over 110 Illegal Gaming Devices Seized in Virginia, Texas

ICYMI – Neighborhood slot machines continue to infiltrate communities nationwide. Despite the efforts of criminals, law enforcement agencies are cracking down.

In Virginia, a recent bust on an illegal gambling operation in Manassas revealed 30 gambling machines actively being used in a secret hideaway in what many believed to be an innocent neighborhood laundromat. From the article: “Detectives obtained search warrants for the businesses and recovered 30 gambling machines and an undisclosed amount of money, along with other items of evidence.” One of the individuals accused in this bust was previously charged for involvement in an illegal gambling operation just last year.

In Harrison, Texas, over 80 illegal gambling machines were seized after a tip-off. The operation also uncovered the presence of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine.

A Marshall (Texas) Police spokesperson had this to say about the incident –

“Law enforcement agencies across Marshall and Harrison County, along with the District Attorney’s Office, remain united in their message: illegal game rooms will not be tolerated.”

“These establishments pose a threat to public safety, and we will continue to hold those who break the law accountable.’”

These events are yet another reminder that these machines continue to infiltrate communities despite bans in place, threatening the safety and well-being of youth, problem gamblers and the safety of our neighborhoods.

Law enforcement action and consistent prosecution is the best way to ensure these machines stay out of Virginia for good. We continue to encourage all localities in Virginia to uphold the will of our General Assembly in doing so.
